Prescription sleep aids are widely available, but they are only meant for short term use. Many people (and even doctors) seem to forget that these sleep aids have dependency and addiction issues, and were never meant to be taken in the long term. Taking prescription sleep aids for more than a few weeks puts you at risk of having to rely on them to get to sleep. Once you stop using prescription sleep aids at this point the rebound insomnia and other withdrawal symptoms can be excruciating. It is best not to start using prescription sleep aids if possible, and instead use herbal remedies to get to sleep. There are rarely any negative effects to taking herbal sleep remedies over prescription sleep aids, and they will not lead to dependency or addiction. For the best results I recommend looking for something with Valerian root and/or St John's Wort, the most effective herbal sedatives.

The use of Rozerem over other prescription sleep medications is growing, due largely to the fact it does not as easily lend itself to abuse or addiction. This is obviously an improvement, though Rozerem still has many negative effects. Like other sleep medications people with liver, kidney and respiratory problems should not use Rozerem as it can make these conditions worse. Rozerem also has its share of side effects, including sexual side effects. There is evidence that Rozerem interrupts menstrual cycles, and can result in a loss of sex drive as well as strange nipple discharge; whether this nipple discharge only applies to women is unclear. Rozerem will interact with many over the counter drugs, like cold medications and all other drugs you are taking should be discussed with your doctor before using Rozerem. It seems like a lot to go through, but people suffering from insomnia, especially chronic insomnia, are usually quite desperate to try anything which can improve their condition. Such drastic steps are not always needed, as sometimes simple lifestyle changes can greatly improve the situation. A healthier diet, regular exercise and a regular sleeping routine often are the best treatments. Other than that you could try a much milder herbal supplement, which will not have harsh side effects and definitely will not have any addiction, dependency or overdose potential attached to them.

The Lunesta sleeping pill is a nonbenzodiazepine, much like Ambien and Sonata. And much like Ambien and Sonata, Lunesta has a long list of negative effects. The Lunesta sleeping pill comes in You should first know that the Lunesta sleeping pill should not be taken by any person with a liver, kidney or lung disease as it can exacerbate these conditions. It also should not be given to anyone with a history of drug abuse because of its potential for addiction, and any person who has suffered from depression should not use the Lunesta sleeping pill because it has been known to promote suicidal thoughts and feelings. Besides all of this, the Lunesta sleeping pill simply has negative side effects like day time drowsiness, lack of concentration, memory problems, headache, dry mouth, nightmares and others. Trust in herbal supplements for sleep unless you have been shown to have a clear physical or psychological problem, otherwise the Lunesta sleeping pill is unnecessary.
